General Description

The Material Control Assistant – Student worker position provides general labor and/or clerical support for the Shipping & Receiving; Mail Services; Motor Pool Operations; Surplus Disposal; Perpetual Supplies Inventory Management; Warehousing; Archive Record Storage & Sensitive Document Destruction areas of Facilities Management.

Job Duties (Duties Assignment Statement)

Assist in unloading, checking, and delivering materials throughout the College.

Assist in processing the College’s mail.

Assist in counting and stocking of perpetual supplies.

Handling sensitive documents and archive records.

Perform light cleaning of office and warehouse areas.

Perform light cleaning of college vehicles as required.

Perform data entry and filing tasks.

Abide by the policies and procedures published in the Board of Regents Policies and College Policies & Procedures

Contribute to a safe educational & working environment.

Adhere to established safety and health procedures and practices for the purpose of providing injury and illness prevention for self and others.

Complete quarterly health and safety training pursuant to OCCC’s established safety and health procedures and practices.

Participate in all applicable OCCC emergency, evacuation and shelter in place drills and be prepared to take action and assist others in taking appropriate action should a health or safety emergency occur.

Minimum Education/Experience

Current OCCC student enrolled in a minimum of 6 hours for the Fall or Spring semester or enrolled in a minimum of 3 hours for the Summer semester.

OR

Current OCCC student with a Federal Work Study award.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Ability to read and follow oral and written instructions.

Access to a residential or cellular telephone.

Ability to read and understand directions, equipment instructions, operating manuals, and College procedures.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

1. GENERAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Very heavy work: This position requires the person to occasionally exert up to 100 pounds of force and constantly exert up to 50 pounds of force to move equipment, packages, and furniture.

2. PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
This position requires the person to frequently move about the various campuses and occasionally perform job functions in narrow aisles or passageways.

This position requires the person to frequently communicate with and listen to administration, faculty, staff, students, and vendors to perform the essential functions of the position. Must be able to exchange accurate information in various situations.

This position requires the person to frequently remain in a standing and stationary position.

This position requires the person to frequently operate equipment that frequently involves repetitive motions of hands and wrists.

This position requires the person to occasionally ascend/descend a ladder to perform the essential functions of the position.

This position requires the person to frequently position self to move, lift, push, pull, work on, or operate equipment, furniture, or packages.

3. VISUAL ACUITY:
This position requires the person to judge, observe and assess the accuracy, neatness, thoroughness of work assigned or to make general observations.

4. WORKING CONDITIONS
This position’s essential functions are performed indoors and outdoors and subject to extreme cold (temperatures below 32 degrees) and extreme hot temperatures (temperatures above 100 degrees).

This position requires the person to communicate above ambient noise levels and exchange accurate information in various situations.

Preferred Qualifications

Basic knowledge of Windows computer operating systems.
