General Description

The Facilities Management Assistant – Student position provides general labor and/or clerical work in support of the following Facilities Management departments: Building and Campus Services, Maintenance and Operations, Material Control, Printing Services, Project Design, and Facilities Management Administration.

Job Duties (Position Specific)

Job Duties (Duties Assignment Statement)

Perform data entry and filing tasks.

Assist in performing field work such as taking measurements.

Assist maintenance mechanics in performing repairs and installations of building equipment.

Replace lamps and ballasts.

Assist in painting surfaces.

Assist in processing the College’s mail.

Assist in unloading, checking, and delivering materials throughout the College.

Clean office and warehouse areas.

Clean college vehicles as required.

Use hand tools in various maintenance tasks.

Perform office, classroom, and event setups.

Water lawns and flowerbeds and perform other campus services tasks, as required.

Job Duties (Safety / Policy & Procedures)

Abide by the policies and procedures published in the Board of Regents Policies and College Policies & Procedures.

Contribute to a safe educational & working environment.

Adhere to established safety and health procedures and practices for the purpose of providing injury and illness prevention for self and others.

Complete quarterly health and safety training pursuant to OCCC’s established safety and health procedures and practices.

Participate in all applicable OCCC emergency, evacuation and shelter in place drills and be prepared to take action and assist others in taking appropriate action should a health or safety emergency occur.

Minimum Education/Experience

Current OCCC student enrolled in a minimum of 6 hours or for the Fall or Spring semester or enrolled in a minimum of 3 hours for the Summer semester.

OR

Current OCCC student with a Federal Work Study award.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Ability to read and follow oral and written instructions.

Access to a residential or cellular telephone.

Ability to effectively use a variety of hand tools.

Ability to read and understand directions, equipment instructions, operating manuals, and College procedures.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

1. GENERAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Medium work: This position requires the person to occasionally exert up to 50 pounds of force and frequently exert up to 20 pounds of force and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

2. PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
This position requires the person to frequently move about the various campuses.

This position requires the person to frequently communicate with and listen to Facilities Management staff, administration, faculty, staff, students, and vendors to perform the essential functions of the position. Must be able to exchange accurate information in various situations.

This position requires the person to frequently remain in a standing and stationary position.

This position requires the person to frequently operate equipment that frequently involves repetitive motions of hands and wrists.

This position requires the person to occasionally ascend/descend a ladder, scaffolding, etc. to perform the essential functions of the position.

This position requires the person to frequently position self to move, lift, push, pull, work on, or operate equipment, furniture, or packages.

3. VISUAL ACUITY:
This position requires the person to judge, observe and assess the accuracy, neatness, thoroughness of work assigned or to make general observations.

4. WORKING CONDITIONS
This position’s essential functions are performed outdoors and subject to extreme cold (temperatures below 32 degrees) and extreme hot temperatures (temperatures above 100 degrees).

This position requires the person to communicate above ambient noise levels and exchange accurate information in various situations.

This position requires the person to frequently be exposed to hazards such as but not limited to: close proximity to moving mechanical parts and/or electrical current; working on scaffolding and high places; exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.

Preferred Qualifications

Basic knowledge of Windows computer operating systems.
