General Description

This student employee serves as a gallery attendant in the OCCC Inasmuch Foundation Gallery, Monday through Friday, 1 – 5 p.m., and during special events. The gallery attendant is primarily responsible for protecting items on display in the Gallery, assists visitors, and helps the Division Assistant and/or exhibit curator in preparing, installing and maintaining exhibits. May be requested to work Visual and Performing Arts Center evening events as hours and schedule allow.

Job Duties (Duties Assignment Statement)

Man the Inasmuch Foundation Gallery, providing security for the art work by monitoring it and greeting and interacting with visitors as required by circumstances and requested.

Open, close, and secure the Inasmuch Foundation Gallery.

Effectively interact with and provide information and assistance to faculty, staff, students, and the public regarding the Inasmuch Foundation Gallery and its current exhibit.

Assist as needed with installation of art work and its removal after an exhibit.

Assist with repairs to the walls of the gallery after an exhibit.

Assist with other Cultural Programs Office duties as assigned. These may include, but are not limited to: document imaging, filing, assisting with reception desk, copying, faxing, sorting mail, assisting with theater events, and assisting Cultural Programs staff as requested.

Job Duties (Safety / Policy & Procedures)

Abide by the policies and procedures published in the Board of Regents Policies and College Policies & Procedures.

Contribute to a safe educational & working environment.

Adhere to established safety and health procedures and practices for the purpose of providing injury and illness prevention for self and others.

Complete quarterly health and safety training pursuant to OCCC’s established safety and health procedures and practices.

Participate in all applicable OCCC emergency, evacuation and shelter in place drills and be prepared to take action and assist others in taking appropriate action should a health or safety emergency occur.

Minimum Education/Experience

Current OCCC student enrolled in a minimum of 6 hours or for the Fall or Spring semester or enrolled in a minimum of 3 hours for the Summer semester.

OR

Current OCCC student with a Federal Work Study award.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Able to work during Gallery open hours (Monday through Friday, 1 – 5 p.m.)

Demonstrated ability to work as a team member and deal with people in a positive manner.

Ability to follow directions and work with little direction.

Attention to detail.

Professional attire when working in the gallery.

Professional attitude and demeanor.

Proficient communication skills; written and oral.

Ability to memorize scripts and information to be shared with patrons.

Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.

Ability to learn new skills quickly after training.

Typing, filing, bookkeeping ability.

Self motivated.

Proficient computer skills with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) or similar software.

Flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

1. GENERAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Light work: The person in this position may occasionally exert up to 20 pounds of force to move objects.

2. PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
This position requires the person to frequently communicate with and listen to customers, vendors, students, staff, faculty, and others to perform the essential functions of the position. Must be able to exchange accurate information in various situations.

This position requires the person to move about the art gallery to monitor, greet, and interact with visitors and perform the essential functions of the position.

This position requires the person to occasionally operate a computer; other office machinery and mobile devices to perform the essential functions of the position.

This position requires the person to occasionally ascend/descend a ladder, scaffolding, etc. to perform the essential functions of the position.

This position requires the person to occasionally position self to grasp, move, lift, push, pull materials and/or position self to grasp, move, lift, push, pull, work on, or operate equipment.

3. VISUAL ACUITY:
This position requires the person to judge, observe and assess the accuracy, neatness, thoroughness of work assigned or to make general observations.

4. WORKING CONDITIONS
This position performs the essential functions in an indoor office and art gallery setting.

This position requires the person to occasionally be exposed to fumes, odors, dusts and/or gases.

Preferred Qualifications

Speak foreign language; preferable Spanish (other may be acceptable) to assist patrons.

Basic spackling and painting skills.

Valid driver’s license.
