General Description

The student employee is responsible for assisting the Child Development Teachers in a variety of tasks, including physically keeping the Center in order throughout the day, and working directly with children. An employee in this position has a high risk for occupational exposure to human blood or other potentially infectious materials as a result of the performance of the employee’s duties.

Job Duties (Duties Assignment Statement)

Assist teachers in serving meals and snacks.

Work with teachers in returning the facility to order throughout the day.

Set up facility for an upcoming activity, such as setting tables, putting out name tags, putting out cots, and setting out outdoor equipment.

Assist with giving teacher breaks and helping during nap time and quiet activities.

Work with teachers in division of routine tasks and perform delegated duties.

Attend and participate in staff meetings and training.

Report to the Teacher and/or Director any suspected child abuse or neglect.

Report to Teacher and/or Director any indications of developmental delay, unusual behavior, emotional insecurity, and unmet physical needs.

Vacuum children areas daily.

Maintain a clean and sanitary environment, following appropriate health and safety guidelines.

Successfully complete the annual Bloodborne Pathogens evaluation update.

Complete, with a passing score, the Department of Human Services mandated Entry Level Child Care Training within the first three months of employment.

Adhere to established safety and health procedures and practices for the purpose of providing injury and illness prevention for self and others.

Abide by the accreditation criteria and licensing requirement applicable to the CDCLS.

Job Duties (Safety / Policy & Procedures)

Abide by the policies and procedures published in the Board of Regents Policies and College Policies & Procedures.

Contribute to a safe educational & working environment.

Adhere to established safety and health procedures and practices for the purpose of providing injury and illness prevention for self and others.

Complete quarterly health and safety training pursuant to OCCC’s established safety and health procedures and practices.

Participate in all applicable OCCC emergency, evacuation and shelter in place drills and be prepared to take action and assist others in taking appropriate action should a health or safety emergency occur.

Minimum Education/Experience

Current OCCC student enrolled in a minimum of 6 hours for the Fall or Spring semester or enrolled in a minimum of 3 hours for the Summer semester.

OR

Current OCCC student with a Federal Work Study award.

AND

Training or experience working with young children.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Demonstrated human relation skills that result in positive and effective communications with children and the public.

Ability to pass a background verification with no convictions by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.

Ability to pass an Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation fingerprint screening with no negative results.

Ability to produce evidence of the absence of tuberculosis.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

1. GENERAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Medium work: This position requires the person to occasionally exert up to 50 pounds of force and frequently exert up to 20 pounds of force and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to grasp, lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.

2. PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
This position requires the person to frequently move about the classroom and playground to assist and monitor children and perform the essential functions of the position.

This position requires the person to frequently communicate with and listen to children, parents, faculty, staff and students to perform the essential functions of the position. Must be able to exchange accurate information in various situations.

This position frequently requires the person to operate a computer and other office/classroom equipment to perform the essential function of the position.

This position requires the person to frequently operate equipment that involves repetitive motions of hands and wrists.

This position requires the person to frequently remain in a standing and stationary position.

This position requires the person to occasionally position self to access materials that may be above the head or at ground level. This position requires the person to frequently position self to work with small children.

This position requires the person to frequently use upper and lower body to exert force up to 50 pounds to lift, hold, and/or re-position children, materials or equipment.

This position requires the person to perceive attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.

3. VISUAL ACUITY:
This position requires the person to judge, observe and assess the accuracy, neatness, thoroughness of work assigned or to make general observations.

4. WORKING CONDITIONS
This position’s essential functions are performed indoors (classroom and office setting) and outdoors (playground activities).

The person in this position will be exposed to infectious diseases.

Preferred Qualifications

Successful completion of 6 college credit hours in Child Development

Ability to produce documentation of Pediatric CPR/First Aid certification.

Ability to produce documentation of Infant Safe Sleep Training.

Basic Microsoft Office computer skills.

Required Training

Attend 20 clock hours of staff development training annually, through Oklahoma Department of Human Services approved workshops, conferences, and successfully completed eligible college level coursework.

Work Hours

Hours will be scheduled Monday – Thursday 7:30 a.m. – close (5:30-9:00 p.m.); Friday, 7:30 a.m.- 5:30 p.m.
