General Description

Tutors provide instructional assistance to students through individual and small group tutoring in study skills and specified academic content area(s).

Job Duties (Position Specific)

Job Duties (Duties Assignment Statement)

Assist program participants in achieving a better understanding of specific subject material using interactive tutoring techniques.

Facilitate the arrangement of time and locations for tutoring sessions.

Keep accurate electronic and hard copy records of all tutoring contacts and submit records as directed.

Review syllabi and course materials in advance of tutoring session.

Assist program participants in developing good study skills and time management practices.

Establish and maintain rapport with assigned students.

Attend all tutor training sessions and meetings.

Advise staff of any need for intervention.

Assist in other activities which contribute to the success of program participants such as clerical support, program recruitment, and peer mentoring.

Job Duties (Safety / Policy & Procedures)

Abide by the policies and procedures published in the Board of Regents Policies and College Policies & Procedures.

Contribute to a safe educational & working environment.

Adhere to established safety and health procedures and practices for the purpose of providing injury and illness prevention for self and others.

Complete quarterly health and safety training pursuant to OCCC’s established safety and health procedures and practices.

Participate in all applicable OCCC emergency, evacuation and shelter in place drills and be prepared to take action and assist others in taking appropriate action should a health or safety emergency occur.

Minimum Education/Experience

Current OCCC student enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours in the fall or spring semesters or a minimum of 3 credit hours in the summer semester.

OR

Current OCCC student with a federal work study award.

AND

Completion of the specified academic content area course(s) with at least a grade of B.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

1. GENERAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Light work: The person in this position may occasionally exert up to 20 pounds of force to move objects.

2. PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
This position requires the person to frequently move about the classroom to assist students and perform the essential functions of the position.

This position requires the person to frequently remain in a standing and stationary position.

This position requires the person to frequently operate equipment that frequently involves repetitive motions of hands and wrists.

This position frequently requires the person to operate a computer, other office equipment and mobile devices to perform the essential functions of the position.

This position requires the person to frequently communicate with and listen to students, staff, and faculty to perform the essential functions of the position. Must be able to exchange accurate information in various situations.

3. VISUAL ACUITY:
This position requires the person to judge, observe and assess the accuracy, neatness, thoroughness of work assigned or to make general observations.

4. WORKING CONDITIONS
This position performs the essential functions in a classroom or office setting.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with TRIO participants or similar groups.

Experience in a professional office setting.

Required Training
Work Hours

Work hours vary depending upon tutoring appointments with TRIO participants. Hours will typically be scheduled between 9am-7pm, Monday through Friday, or according to lab availability.
