General Description

Technical Instructor is responsible for identifying, developing and delivering technical instruction curriculum. The Technical Instructor facilitates instruction for multiskilled classroom and lab environments, specific to courses in electric, gas, steam, refrigeration, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment maintenance.

Job Duties (Duties Assignment Statement)

Identify, develop and deliver curriculum relevant to the maintenance technician industry.

Provide instruction for lab environments for multiskilled, electrical, gas, steam, refrigeration, hydraulics and pneumatic courses.

Develop and enforce classroom rules and safety procedures.

Maintains necessary attendance, scholastic and student records, and submits records according to published guidelines.

Contacts students outside the classroom due to student absence to relay information related to class work and assignments.

Offers students additional tutoring outside class time.

Collaborate with CFEST program Director and other CFEST program staff to design program relevant curriculum.

Collaborate with all CFEST grant stakeholders to develop industry relevant curriculum.

Performs various functions and duties directly related to the program or the operations of the campus.

Other responsibilities as assigned by the CFEST Program Director.

Job Duties (Safety / Policy & Procedures)

Abide by the policies and procedures published in the Board of Regents Policies and College Policies & Procedures

Contribute to a safe educational & working environment.

Adhere to established safety and health procedures and practices for the purpose of providing injury and illness prevention for self and others.

Complete quarterly health and safety training pursuant to OCCC’s established safety and health procedures and practices.

Participate in all applicable OCCC emergency, evacuation and shelter in place drills and be prepared to take action and assist others in taking appropriate action should a health or safety emergency occur.

Minimum Education/Experience

A minimum of an Associate’s degree and three (3) years related full-time experience as an electrical, refrigeration or HVAC technician;

OR

Some college credit hours or vocational training in electrical, refrigeration or HVAC and four (4) years as a field technician.

Basic computer skills, proficient in the use of Microsoft Office or similar software.

Ability to work independently and coordinate work with colleagues and peers.

Ability to work well as a team member in an instructional unit.

Ability to communicate and articulate concepts in an organized manner both verbally and in writing.

Ability to read and understand content in order to assist students when they are having difficulty interpreting concepts.

Ability to be available for office hours and provide means of communication with supervisor(s) and/or the department or division office.

Must be punctual.

Must be reliable.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

1. GENERAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Medium work: This position requires the person to occasionally exert up to 50 pounds of force and frequently exert up to 20 pounds of force and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to grasp, lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.

2. PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
This position requires the person to frequently move about classrooms, labs, and offices to perform the essential functions of the position.

This position requires the person to frequently communicate with and listen to administration, faculty, staff, students, and others to perform the essential functions of the position. Must be able to exchange accurate information in various situations.

This position requires the person to frequently remain in a standing and stationary position.

This position requires the person to occasionally ascend/descend ladders, scaffolding, ramps, stairs, etc. to perform the essential functions of the position.

This position requires the person to frequently position self to grasp, move, lift, push, pull, operate and/or inspect equipment or materials.

This position requires the person to frequently position self to access materials that may be above head or at ground level.

This position requires the person to use upper and lower body to exert force up to 50 pounds to grasp move, lift, push, and/or pull materials or equipment.

This position requires the person to perceive attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.

This position frequently requires the person to operate a computer and/or other equipment and mobile devices to perform the essential functions of the position.

This position requires the person to frequently operate equipment that involves repetitive motions of hands, wrists, and/or fingers.

3. VISUAL ACUITY:
This position requires the person to judge, observe and assess the accuracy, neatness, thoroughness of work assigned or to make general observations.

4. WORKING CONDITIONS
This position’s essential functions are performed both indoors and outdoors. When working outdoors this person is subject to extreme cold (temperatures below 32 degrees) and extreme hot temperatures (temperatures above 100 degrees).

This position requires the person to communicate above ambient noise levels and exchange accurate information in various situations.

This position requires the person to frequently be exposed to hazards such as but not limited to: vibration; close proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, and/or electrical current; working on scaffolding and high places; exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals, oils, and/or other cutting fluids.

This position requires the person to frequently be exposed to fumes, odors, dusts, mists, and gases.

This position requires the person to occasionally perform essential functions in close quarters; crawl spaces; shafts; manholes; small, enclosed rooms; small sewage and water line pipes; and narrow aisles or passageways.
