General Description

The Personal Trainer is responsible for informing, educating and motivating clients interested in achieving their fitness goals via individual personal training sessions or weight training classes.

Job Duties (Duties Assignment Statement)

Develop safe and effective exercise programs based on individual’s goals and health history.

Conduct Service Assessments which include body measurements.

Determine clients current physical status based on personal health and physical history.

Assists in maintaining gym equipment and ensures cleanliness of the facility.

Teach weight training classes.

Keep thorough records.

Job Duties (Safety / Policy & Procedures)

Abide by the policies and procedures published in the Board of Regents Policies and College Policies & Procedures.

Contribute to a safe educational & working environment.

Adhere to established safety and health procedures and practices for the purpose of providing injury and illness prevention for self and others.

Complete quarterly health and safety training pursuant to OCCC’s established safety and health procedures and practices.

Participate in all applicable OCCC emergency, evacuation and shelter in place drills and be prepared to take action and assist others in taking appropriate action should a health or safety emergency occur.

Minimum Education/Experience

Current personal training certifications: NSCA, ACSM, ACE, NETA or any other equivalent certification and/or Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science related field.

Current certification in CPR/First Aid or be willing to acquire a recognized certification within thirty days of employment.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Positive human relations and communication skills.

Knowledge of exercise science, health/fitness assessment, program design, special populations and sports nutrition.

Ability to properly instruct and motivate clients.

Must maintain required certifications.

Excellent customer service skills.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

1. GENERAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Medium work: This position requires the person to occasionally exert up to 50 pounds of force and frequently exert up to 20 pounds of force and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to grasp, lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.

2. PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
This position requires the person to frequently move about the classroom to properly demonstrate exercise movements and to assist students in performing the essential functions of the position.

This position requires the person to frequently communicate with students, staff, members, visitors, and others to perform the essential functions of the position. Must be able to exchange accurate information in various situations.

This position requires the person to frequently remain in a standing and stationary position.

This position requires the person to operate equipment that frequently involves repetitive motions of hands and wrists.

This position requires the person to frequently position self to properly demonstrate exercise movements, and/or to lift, push, pull, work on, or operate and/or inspect exercise equipment.

3. VISUAL ACUITY:
This position requires the person to judge, observe and assess the accuracy, neatness, thoroughness of work assigned or to make general observations.

4. WORKING CONDITIONS
This position’s essential functions are performed in an indoor recreation and fitness facility.

Preferred Qualifications

1 year personal training experience.

Computer skills – Word, Excel, desk top publishing.

Maintain Fitness and CPR certifications

Obtain CEU’s as necessary
