General Description

TRiO Upward Bound Academic Year Tutors provide instructional assistance to high school students in a group setting two hours per week.

Job Duties (Duties Assignment Statement)

Provide individualized and small-group tutoring in content areas specified by the Upward Bound Assistant Director.

Keep accurate electronic and hard copy records of all tutoring contacts and submit records as directed.

Assist students in the use of instructional equipment and materials.

Provide weekly reports to Upward Bound Assistant Director regarding students’ progress.

Assist program participants in developing good study skills and time management practices.

Establish and maintain rapport with assigned students.

Attend and participate in all Upward Bound tutor training sessions, meetings, and orientations.

Advise staff of any need for intervention.

Perform all work in an ethical and confidential manner.

Job Duties (Safety / Policy & Procedures)

Abide by the policies and procedures published in the Board of Regents Policies and College Policies & Procedures.

Contribute to a safe educational & working environment.

Adhere to established safety and health procedures and practices for the purpose of providing injury and illness prevention for self and others.

Complete quarterly health and safety training pursuant to OCCC’s established safety and health procedures and practices.

Participate in all applicable OCCC emergency, evacuation and shelter in place drills and be prepared to take action and assist others in taking appropriate action should a health or safety emergency occur.

Minimum Education/Experience

Valid Oklahoma State Teaching Certification required in subject areas being tutored, i.e. math, English, science, history or a master’s degree in the subject.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Positive human relations skills.

Positive oral and written communication skills.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

1. GENERAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Light work: The person in this position may occasionally exert up to 20 pounds of force to grasp, lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.

2. PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
This position requires the person to frequently move about the office or classroom to assist students and perform the essential functions of the position.

This position requires the person to frequently remain in a standing and stationary position.

This position frequently requires the person to operate a computer, other office equipment and mobile devices to perform the essential functions of the position.

This position requires the person to frequently communicate with and listen to students, staff, and faculty to perform the essential functions of the position. Must be able to exchange accurate information in various situations.

3. VISUAL ACUITY:
This position requires the person to judge, observe and assess the accuracy, neatness, thoroughness of work assigned or to make general observations.

4. WORKING CONDITIONS
This position performs the essential functions in a classroom or office setting.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledgeable about students from target high schools (Capitol Hill, Southeast, U.S. Grant, Southmoore, Moore, Westmoore, Santa Fe South High School, and Pathways Middle College).

Experience teaching college level courses, high school courses, or experience tutoring.

Required Training

Quarterly Health and Safety Training and Sexual Harassment online training.

Work Hours

Weekly: Tuesday evenings 4:30pm – 6:30pm, except when both OKCPS and Moore PS are out of school. There also will be no tutoring on the same evening as an Upward Bound workshop (calendar will be provided).
